ASCII talker sentence protocol for GNSS and marine instruments, traditionally over 4800 8N1 serial (higher rates are common now). Sentences begin with $ or !, carry comma-separated fields, and end with an XOR checksum and CRLF. Talker IDs and formatters (RMC, GGA, and others) identify the payload.
