Management interface for Ethernet PHYs: MDC clock plus bidirectional MDIO with preamble, start, op, PHYAD, and REGAD fields. Clause 22 exposes 32 registers per PHY; Clause 45 adds MMD device addressing for multi-function and higher-speed PHYs. Link bring-up, autoneg ads, and LED/mode straps are usually configured here.
