64 kb/s PCM audio codecs for telephony: μ-law (PCMU, North America/Japan) and A-law (PCMA, elsewhere) compress linear samples with logarithmic quantization. RTP static payload types 0 and 8 identify them in SDP. They remain the interoperability baseline for PSTN gateways.
